Man jailed over murder of Arts Club Dubai chef

A man who attacked chef Mussie Imnetu and left him to die in London has been jailed for 18 years.

Detectives used CCTV footage and sunglasses dropped at the scene to find Omar Wilson, 31, of Napier Road, Leytonstone, responsible for the killing.

Imnetu, 41, was head chef at the Arts Club private members’ club and restaurant in Dubai and was visiting the UK to help train colleagues last summer. He was found unconscious with a head injury in London’s Queensway at 11:22pm on 26 August 2024.

The chef was taken to hospital but died of his injuries four days later.

Wilson claimed he attacked Mussie in self-defence but was found guilty of murder by a jury majority on 20 February this year.

Police were able to use CCTV to view the attack and show Wilson had later travelled across London to a nightclub.

Keys dropped at the scene were found to be a perfect match for his house and car while analysis of his phone placed him in Queensway at the time of the murder.

The jury were also shown messages sent by Wilson to friends in in the aftermath of the attack. In one of them he said: “There’s a monster in me ... and it’s just like sometimes it comes out. And I think I’ve messed up now … and everything’s finished”.

In another he said that “I did the hands ting…finished one guy man” and was told by a friend to “get a solicitor and use your ADHD”.

Wilson was arrested on 28 August 2024 and charged the following day.

Detective chief inspector Brian Howie from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “Our thoughts very much remain with Mussie’s family and friends in Dubai, Sweden and London. Mussie was a loving husband, father, son and a respected chef. He was in London for a few days to help train his colleagues and went out that evening to enjoy the post Notting Hill Carnival atmosphere, where tragically he was violently assaulted.”

Imnetu had worked under chefs including Marcus Wareing, Gordon Ramsay and Alain Ducasse, according to the Arts Club website.
