Mar Hall recruits Andy Roger as resort director ahead of £20m relaunch

Mar Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort in Bishopton, Renfrewshire has appointed Andy Roger as resort director.

The experienced hospitality professional will oversee the resort’s reopening this spring, following a £20m refurbishment.

Mar Hall’s overhaul involves the development of a new clubhouse, spa and 48 woodland lodges within its 240-acre estate. This will take the hotel’s room count from 79 to 129.

Roger will lead Mar Hall into this next chapter, having spent decades within the hotel sector.

After completing his degree from the University of Edinburgh, he began his career with Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, rising quickly through the ranks. At 27, he became the youngest general manager in the company’s history at Hotel du Vin Tunbridge Wells, before returning to Scotland to launch Malmaison Aberdeen and later lead Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens.

In 2013, Roger joined Cameron House in Loch Lomond as operations director and was promoted to resort director. For over a decade, he led a team of 600 staff through two ownership changes and major refurbishments and expansion.

His most recent role was as chief executive at Lost Shore Surf Resort in Edinburgh, where he oversaw the launch of the world’s first inland surf resort in November 2024.

Roger said: “Returning to a more intimate resort setting is a welcome shift – it takes me back to my earlier roles, focused on genuine, personal connections with both the team and our guests. Mar Hall has incredible advantages as a 240-acre country estate, close to Glasgow and as a gateway to the Highlands, and I’m looking forward to being part of its evolution as we expand over the coming years.”

Mar Hall fell into administration in September 2023 but was saved from collapse three months later by Dubai-based firm Dutco Group and investment and asset management firm Align Partners.

Align’s managing director Chris King said: “Andy is an exceptional hospitality leader who understands the power of people, purpose, and place. His track record in resort management speaks for itself, but it’s his passion for mentoring talent and creating standout guest experiences that truly sets him apart.”

At the time of the purchase, the new owners said £15m had been committed to expand and upgrade the property, with the ambition to create a hotel to “rival world-class resorts such as Cameron House and Gleneagles”.

Last year the resort also appointed Tony Tapia as executive head chef and Louise Campbell as head pastry chef.

Mar Hall dates back to 1828 and is situated in an estate that borders an 18-hole championship golf course. It was relaunched as a hotel in 2004 and has hosted celebrity guests such as Harry Styles, Brad Pitt and Ed Sheeran.
