Mark Surguy appointed GM of Firmdale's Haymarket hotel

Firmdale has appointed Mark Surguy general manager of its Haymarket hotel in London, following six years at the Stafford.

Surguy will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hotel including Brumus, the hotel's restaurant and bar, and the exclusive townhouse.

While at the Stafford, he progressed from executive assistant manager to hotel manager, overseeing the launch of the Game Bird restaurant and the multimillion-pound renovation of the hotel suites.

Surguy began his career at the Goring hotel in Belgravia on a management training scheme, before moving to South Lodge Hotel & Spa in Horsham, West Sussex, as front of house manager, progressing to operations manager. While there he received an Acorn Award.

He said: "I've long been an admirer of all of the Firmdale hotels, to take the helm at the Haymarket hotel is an honour and an opportunity that I am very much looking forward to."

Sharon Pinchbeck was the Haymarket's most recent general manager, before leaving in November 2020. The role was covered in the interim by former group operations manager Lisa Brooklyn Fuhres, who left Firmdale in April to join the Sutton Hotel Collection.

The hotel building was designed by John Nash, the master architect who developed most of Regency London, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, and the adjoining Haymarket Theatre. The hotel has 53 bedrooms and suites, a conservatory, library and Brumus bar and restaurant on the hotel's ground floor adjacent to the lobby.

Firmdale Hotels is privately owned by Tim and Kit Kemp and comprises eight luxury hotels in central London and two in New York, including the Ham Yard hotel, the Soho hotel, Covent Garden hotel, and Charlotte Street hotel. The group also owns Dorset Square hotel in Marylebone, Knightsbridge hotel and Number Sixteen in South Kensington.
