Market Place to make regional debut in 2026

Market Place is set to launch its first food hall outside of London in Manchester in 2026 as it embarks on its “Northern journey”.

The site will take over a 14,200 sq ft space in the Rylands Building, formerly home to Debenhams, and will feature a variety of food vendors specialising in the likes of Argentinian, Greek, Mexican and Indian cuisine.

Market Place Manchester will be an all-day destination, offering co-working spaces and pool tables during the day and large-scale bars, live music and a programme of comedy acts in the evening.

The announcement comes soon after Market Place opened a food hall in London’s St Paul’s this May.

Blake Henderson, managing director of Market Place, said: “We’ve had our eye on Manchester for a long time. It’s a city that thrives on creativity, culture and community, which is exactly what we’re all about. 

“Rylands represents the perfect location for Market Place to open the doors to its first northern food hall. At the heart and hub of the city, it blends tradition and culture with the changing tastes of food, with socialising at the core. We’re excited to start work and welcome our first customers through the door.”

He added: “Our goal has always been to create inclusive, high-energy spaces that celebrate independent food vendors. This opening is just the beginning of our Northern journey, and we couldn’t be more excited to get started in the capital of the North.”

Market Place was founded in 2020 and operates London food halls across St Paul’s, Vauxhall, Harrow and Peckham.

Its regional expansion coincides with a boom in food halls across multiple brands, ranging from Kerb to Boxpark.
