A team of Master Innholders made up of both experienced cyclists and enthusiastic novices has raised over £135k by cycling from Reims to Chilham
A team of over 35 Master Innholders has raised more than £135,000 for Hospitality Action by cycling from Taittinger’s cellars in Reims, France, to its newest vineyard in Kent, Domaine Evremond.
The group of mixed ability supported each other through the gruelling 370km journey, with severe weather on the ride failing to hold back the determined Master Innholders.
Participants in the charity cycle ride included Joanne Taylor-Stagg, general manager at Pennyhill Park, Craig Bancroft, managing director at Northcote, Stuart Bowery, general manager at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London and Sally Beck, general manager at the Royal Lancaster London.
In recognition of the ten years of support from Taittinger and Hatch Mansfield, the route was inspired by Jean Taittinger who, when he was Mayor of Reims, twinned the city with Canterbury, which is next to Taittinger’s English vineyard in Chilham.
Andrew Stembridge, lead organiser and past chair of the Master Innholders, said: “I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved as a collective. This is the most we’ve ever raised through the cycle ride, at a time when Hospitality Action is facing unprecedented demand. The continued support from Taittinger and Hatch Mansfield is invaluable and makes this event not only unique, but truly special.”
Fellow cyclist Grant Campbell, general manager at Nobu Hotel London Portman Square, added: “These charity cycle rides are always a blend of challenge, camaraderie, and above all, generosity. I’m incredibly proud of our team for going the extra mile — both literally and figuratively — to raise even more for Hospitality Action this year. Huge thanks to our sponsors, industry partners, and everyone who donated to make this the most successful Master Innholders charity ride to date.”
Hospitality Action chief executive Mark Lewis expressed his appreciation for the significant funds raised by the hoteliers.
He said: “Our recent Taking the Temperature survey revealed that three-quarters of respondents have experienced poor mental health in adulthood, with nearly a third affected in the past year alone.
The funds raised by the Master Innholders will make a real difference in helping us support those individuals and many more who rely on our services. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part and went the distance on this demanding ride.”
