Matt Fletcher to open British gastropub at the Landmark London hotel

Matt Fletcher has returned to the Landmark London hotel to oversee the opening of a new gastropub.

He has been appointed chef de cuisine of the Great Central Pub by Matt Fletcher, which will replace the Great Central Bar and Restaurant and opens on 28 November.

The pub is described as a more relaxed concept for the five-red-AA-starred hotel that will strip back the more ‘corporate' feel of the previous restaurant.

It will show live sport and serve a menu of pub classics such as scotch egg with piccalilli; rare-seared steak sandwich on tiger bread with hot horseradish, onion jam and watercress; steak and ale pie; and a ‘posh' fish finger butty.

Drinks will include a global wine list as well as London beers and ales, with new breweries set to be rotated in to give guests a varied offering.

Fletcher previously worked at the hotel from 2009-2011 in sous chef and executive sous chef roles.

He said: "Some five-star hotels and high-end places can often make people feel unwelcome and out of place. I want my pub to feel welcoming and not stuffy; an affordable place where you can relax with family, friends, a partner or even alone."

The Landmark London opened in Marylebone 120 years ago and features 300 bedrooms, the Mirror bar, the Winter Garden restaurant and Garden terrace bar.
