Meininger Hotels to open first UK site in Edinburgh next month

Meininger hotels will open its first UK hotel on Edinburgh’s Haymarket on 5 August.

The 157-bedroom hotel will open in a converted 1970s office building and be the budget brand’s 38th European venue.  

Rooms will range from private single rooms to shared dormitories with a total of 549 beds.

Ajit Menon, chief executive of Meininger Hotels said: “Expanding into Edinburgh is a natural next step for our brand. The city boasts steady year-round tourism, excellent transport connections and a diverse mix of visitors. We are thrilled to revive a long-dormant building, enhance the local hospitality offering and support the growth of Edinburgh’s tourism economy.”

Communal facilities at the Edinburgh hotel will include a kitchen, bar, lounge, a breakfast area and outdoor terrace.

The group has said its appeal stretches across a broad range of guests, from families and student groups to backpackers, festival-goers, conference attendees and business travellers.

Meininger Hotels currently operates 37 hotels across 27 European cities.

The group has projects under development in Barcelona, Strasbourg, Madrid, Porto and Tel Aviv. A Dublin hotel is expected to open in 2028.
