‘Much-loved’ chef working at Rick Stein Restaurants dies

A “much-loved” chef working at a Rick Stein restaurant in Cornwall has been found dead inside staff accommodation following concerns for his welfare.

Police were called to Grenville Road, Padstow, at around 8pm on 13 February.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: “Sadly, a man in his 30s was declared deceased at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious. His next of kin has been informed.”

The Metro reported the chef had been working at the Cornish Arms, which Stein took over with his business partner and ex-wife Jill in 2009. 

Ian Fitzgerald, managing director, Rick Stein Restaurants, said: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of our chefs on Thursday 13th February.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, but out of respect for the family’s wishes for privacy during this difficult time, we will not be sharing further details.

"Our heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends and all who knew him. He was a valued and much-loved member of our team and will be greatly missed.”
