As summer holidays draw to a close, the hospitality industry is set to welcome a suite of new openings, ranging from Nakimushi in London’s Notting Hill from the team behind Dorian to Italian restaurateur Roberto Costa launching Roman-style pizzeria God Save the Pizza (GSTP) in London’s Exmouth Market.
Meanwhile in Edinburgh, Signature Group has invested £100,000 into new cocktail bar Understory, which is focusing on nostalgic flavours of the summer.

The team behind Levan in London’s Peckham are to launch Parisian bistro Cassette in London’s Covent Garden. Head chef Essa Fakhry, formerly of Note in Dublin and Planque in London’s Haggerston, has created a menu rooted in French classical techniques with an inventive twist.

Chef Sertaç Dirik of Mangal II and restaurateur David Carter, who is behind the Michelin-starred Oma in London’s Borough Market, have opened the doors to Kid in London’s Soho. The highly anticipated restaurant showcases the flavours of Central Anatolia, where Sertaç’s family is from, and leans on humble, ingredient-led sharing plates with a hint of nostalgia.

Family-run hospitality business Thwaites has opened the 13-bedroom Lister Farmhouse in Malham, North Yorkshire. The hotel is the latest addition to the Lister portfolio, which consists of the Lister Arms and Lister Barn. It has been designed by Jane Goff of Goff Associates, who was also behind the interior design at Langdale Chase on Lake Windermere.

Former River Café chef Nick Grieves and Lawrence Norman have joined forces to open live-fire cooking restaurant Wyld at Freight Island Newcastle. Wyld will also welcome a cocktail bar hosting live music nights and DJ sets.

Public House Group, the team behind the Pelican in Notting Hill and the Bull in Charlbury, are to open the Horses pub in London’s Clerkenwell. The “classic boozer” will showcase ingredient-led cooking using produce sourced from the group’s own market gardens in the Cotswolds.

Chef Dom Chapman and restaurateur and former Fat Duck Group managing director Nigel Sutcliffe have launched their first joint hospitality venture, the Jack O’Newbury restaurant with rooms in Binfield, Berkshire. The venue, affectionately called ‘the Jack’, features an 80-cover dining room, 20-cover terrace and 11 individually designed bedrooms split between the central pub building and the renovated barn.

La Petite Maison has launched Riviera-inspired concept Le Café LPM as a year-long residency at the Lanesborough in London’s Knightsbridge. The all-day restaurant offers a selection of sharing plates, with desserts such as Le Soleil de Menton, a mascarpone and lemon mousse with hazelnut sponge and citrus curd. Guest will also be able to try the signature Tomatini.

JD Wetherspoon has launched a pub within the University of St Andrews’ Students’ Association building. The Red Gown is open to students and university staff, as well as the wider community. The bar will continue to be owned and operated by the Students’ Association.

The Beaumont Mayfair is to welcome Pearl, a new restaurant and terrace within its refreshed 950 sq m Brown Hart Gardens. The menu has been created by culinary director Lisa Goodwin-Allen and offers everything from morning pastries to dinner.

Roberto Costa, the prolific Italian restaurateur behind Macellaio RC, has launched Roman-style pizzeria God Save the Pizza (GSTP) in London’s Exmouth Market. Guests can create their own pizza by customising the base, sauce, cheese and up to four toppings, included at no extra charge.

Parisian smashburger brand Dumbo, which made its UK debut last year in London’s Shoreditch, is doubling up its London locations with a 550 sq ft site in Soho. Dumbo was founded by Charles Ganem and Samuel Nataf in Pigalle in Paris in 2019 and has since garnered a cult following for its minimalist menu and interiors.

Sam Baxendale, the former manager of Bramble, and James Grant, head of bars at the Rutland, are to open cocktail bar Understory in Edinburgh’s West End following a £100,000 investment by Edinburgh-based Signature Group. For its launch, Understory will offer a rotating cocktail menu built around nostalgia, focusing on the flavours of penny sweets.

PG or Proper Good, the quick-service restaurant brand from musician Professor Green and Hero Brands, the creators of Sides with the Sidemen, is expanding into London’s Soho following its Glasgow debut earlier this year. It will serve a mix of Korean-inspired hot brioche rolls, or UFOs, loaded salads and electrolyte-focused drinks.

Florence Mae Maglanoc’s 1996 Group, which is behind Filipino restaurant Donia and cult bakery Panadera in London’s Soho and Marylebone, is to open a specialty French toast and ube bar at Westfield White City. The 15-cover site will serve three signature French toasts, each built on a layer of whipped cream and finished with toppings such as ube jam, matcha ganache and milo cookies and cream. Ice-cream created by Adrian Kyle Felipe, a long-time collaborator of Maglanoc, will also be available.

Levantine-infused, rooftop brasserie Honeyshade is to open above Central Park hotel in London’s Bayswater. Alongside a focus on seasonal produce, premium steaks and sharing plates, the restaurant will feature a stone oven that can produce manakeesh and oven-baked flatbreads.

The team behind Michelin-starred Dorian are to open Japanese townhouse restaurant Nakimushi in Notting Hill Gate. The dual-format restaurant is being led by chefs Yuji Shimokawa Kelly and Robin Kosuge, bringing together their tried-and-tested residencies, Urchin and Robin’s Ramen, under one roof. The first-floor dining room also features a bar serving shochu highballs.

The team behind Mexican Seoul in London’s Hackney are launching spin-off residency, Seouls of Mischief, within the Adam & Eve pub in London’s Homerton. It comes roughly five years after Ashley Chipchase founded the Korean-Mexican street food concept as a Brick Lane pop-up.

Claudia and Otto Boyer are continuing to expand Jenki matcha bars across London, this time in Soho. The latest outpost has been designed by female-led London studio Kai Interiors and comes ahead of further openings planned in Liverpool Street, St Paul’s, Fitzrovia and Marylebone.
