Petersham Nurseries MD to open Florentine trattoria and bar in Notting Hill

Lara Boglione, managing director of Petersham Nurseries, and her husband Giovanni Mazzei, are set to open a trattoria and bar in London’s Notting Hill next month.

Trogolo will be a contemporary trattoria and bar inspired by the spirit of Florence, spread across two floors with a secluded outdoor courtyard.

The main downstairs dining area will consist of long, shared tables for guests to enjoy aperitivos, wines, pasta and charcuterie boards, though tables for two will also be available.

The bar will provide cocktails and snacks such as crostini topped with melted pecorino in true Florentine style.

Dishes will include hand-cut, 24-month aged Cinta Senese pig; handmade tagliolini tossed with white truffle and porcini mushrooms; carne condita (seasoned beef) and torta di mele (a rustic apple cake).

Boglione’s husband Mazzei comes from a family of Tuscan winemakers and has curated a wine list inspired by his heritage.

He said: “We aim to make our wine list the definitive reference point for Italian and, specifically, Tuscan wines in London. Our 350-bottle selection spans everything from funky, experimental styles to timeless classics, all united by a deep respect for natural winemaking.”

Boglione added: “The Tuscan spirit is warm and effusive. We’re bringing this hearty sense of hospitality to Trogolo, a place that captures the feel of Florence, where the chatter of guests at noisy trattorias and wine bars spills out onto the streets and into the night. We can’t wait to open the doors, pour our favourite wines and share the simple dishes we love with friends, neighbours and new faces alike.”

The Petersham Nurseries plant nursery and restaurant in London’s Richmond was founded by Lara’s parents Gael and Francesco Boglione in 1997.

Lara took on the role of managing director in 2011 and in 2013 she founded Italian wine merchant Petersham Cellar with her husband Giovanni.

Earlier this year, she closed Petersham Nurseries’ central London restaurants, La Goccia and the Petersham Covent Garden, after six years of trading.
