Plimsoll chef to relaunch the Macbeth pub in London’s Hackney

The chef behind the Plimsoll is set to relaunch the Macbeth in London’s Hackney as a pub and Portuguese tasca next month.

This marks Jamie Allan’s first standalone project following the launch of his residency Four Legs, which he started with co-founder Ed McIlroy in 2019.

The duo went onto launch the Plimsoll in London’s Finsbury Park in 2021 and and Tollington’s last year last year, which was praised by Grace Dent of the Guardian for serving “hands down the greatest chips [she has] ever eaten”.

Now, Allan is taking the reins of the Macbeth on Hoxton Street with Patrick Nolan, who will be leading front of house.

The Macbeth dates back to the mid-1800s and has long been a pub and live music venue. The restoration will see the building’s 19th-century tiled mural becoming a centrepiece.

Under Allan, the site will serve the likes of morcela fina, chicken samosa, snail rice and pork and cheese rolls, with seating times available until 11pm.

Commenting on the launch, he said: “Having been brought up in Hackney, it’s a beautiful opportunity to work in a part of London that feels very close to my heart.”
