Greene King signs Rooney as new chief exec

Pub operator Greene King has appointed the boss of its brewing division to take over as chief executive from next May.

Rooney Anand, managing director of the Greene King Brewing Company, will succeed Tim Bridge, who is stepping up to become non-executive chairman.

The current non-executive chairman, David McCall, has said he is retiring on 1 May, when he will be 70.

Anand has been with the company since 2001. Before that he was with cake-maker the Sara Lee Corporation.

The company would now be looking for a suitable person to replace Anand in the brewing role, it said.

McCall said: "Tim has been an outstanding chief executive over the last ten years during which the company has achieved successful growth, both organically and through targeted acquisitions."

He added: "I believe that Tim and Rooney will make a powerful team and provide the right leadership and continuity going forward."
