Interim finance chief joins Walkabout owner

Regent Inns has appointed an interim finance director, in a move designed to start repairing the damage caused by its embarrassing breach of financial rules.

On Tuesday the company, operator of the Walkabout and Jongleurs chains, failed to publish its annual results, after revealing that it had breached rules set out in its bank loans.

This in turn came after the abrupt departures last week of the company's chief executive and finance director.

Today the firm said it had appointed Paul Felton-Smith as interim finance director, with immediate effect.

Felton-Smith is a former finance director of jeweller Aspreys and group finance director of Liverpool Victoria.

He has been an interim financial manager - a sort of freelance financial trouble-shooter - since 2001.

At the time of its announcement about the full-year results, Regent said it planned to delay publication of the results in an effort to get the matter sorted out.
