Pubs to stay open until 1am to mark Queen's Platinum Jubilee
The government has moved forward with plans to let pubs stay open until 1am to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.
The change will allow venues already licensed until 11pm to serve customers for an extra two hours on 2 June, 3 June, and 4 June.
In a written statement to parliament, Home Office minister Kit Malthouse said the move would allow people to "celebrate the longest reigning Monarch in the United Kingdom".
An impact assessment is being prepared and will be published on the government website.
A series of celebrations, including a concert, a Service of Thanksgiving, and nationwide street parties, will be held over the four-day bank holiday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the monarch's reign.
Past national occasions where the government has extended licensing hours have included the royal wedding in 2018, the Queen's 90th birthday in 2016 and the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
