Baguette Barge in Stratford for sale
A rare opportunity has risen to buy a profitable takeaway business based on a barge in a plum part of the Warwickshire town of Stratford upon Avon.
The business was founded in 1995 on a 30ft narrowboat and acquired in 2001 by Colin Pike and Karen Tobin, who transformed it from a small seasonal venture into one of the town's busiest small businesses. In 2003, they expanded into the current 60-foot long and 10-foot wide barge.
The Baguette Barge is split between a large commercial kitchen with preparation and storage areas and an elevated servery.
It employs a permanent chef and, in the summer, a combined workforce of 10 people. As welling as selling home-made sandwich fillings, cakes, soups, pies, pastries, jacket potato fillings, cottage pies and lasagnes for takeaway, the Baguette Barge also operates a local home delivery service.
It was one of the first businesses in the area to complete the Safer Food Better Business programme and also one of the first to achieve a Gold rating for food hygiene.
The freehold is on the market for offers in the region of £350,000. The highly prestigious mooring is held on a six-year lease (from July 2006) at an annual rent of £7,500.
