Burrito bar operator Barburrito is to open a new site at the Qube redevelopment at Intu Metrocentre in Gateshead.

The 55-cover restaurant is expected to employ up to 25 staff.

It will be the 12th restaurant for the group, which operates in Leeds, Manchester, London and Liverpool.

The business plans to grow to more than 20 stores within the next two years with help from the Business Growth Fund. New sites are expected to target high footfall locations including major city centres, shopping centres and travel hubs.

Jim Bishop, Barburrito's head of property, said: "We are delighted to be part of Intu Metrocentre's Qube redevelopment scheme and are excited about opening there in early 2016.

"This acquisition is part of our plan to grow nationally following on from our recent development in Cardiff, St David's Centre and agreement of terms for a number of new restaurants in various parts of the UK."
