Birmingham restaurant begins legal action against blogger
Great British Menu winner, Aktar Islam has begun legal action for defamation against a food blogger.
Islam (pictured), chef-director of award-winning Lasan restaurant in Birmingham is seeking "substantial damages" from blogger Dan Toombs following a blog post on www.greatcurryrecipes.net.
The post, which has since been removed, relates to a visit by Toombs to the restaurant and an alleged dispute over payment of the bill.
Following the incident, it is understood that Toombs took to microblogging site Twitter to continue the allegations made against Lasan. Toombs, who is from North Yorkshire, tweets under the name of @TheCurryGuy and has more than 18,000 followers.
In a statement, Jabbar Khan, chief executive of Lasan said:
"Following the defamatory allegations made against Lasan and its owners, a letter before action was sent by our solicitors requesting that unless the offending material is removed we would issue immediate injunction proceedings for its removal and a warning given that a claim will be issued for substantial damages for defamation.
The offending material has subsequently been removed and proceedings will now be issued for substantial damages for defamation."
