Brasserie Blanc expands to the North-west

Brasserie Blanc, Raymond Blanc's high-street restaurant chain, is set to open its first outlet in the North-west with the launch of a restaurant in Liverpool.

The new restaurant, which is set to open next year, will be located at the city's Mann Island riverside development comprising a 4,750sq ft site including a terrace overlooking the canal basin and locks.

The announcement comes nearly three years after Blanc turned his back on opening a restaurant at Liverpool One, after claiming that Brasserie Blanc was "too posh" for the city's leisure development.

The new opening forms part of a nationwide expansion programme as part of which Brasserie Blanc is targeting pub and bar sites throughout the country.

Brasserie Blanc managing director John Lederer said the company had been looking to open a site on Liverpool for some time. "This is an exceptionally original development in a fantastic waterfront location. It is both a hub and an oasis," he said.

Jon Patrick, head of leisure at Christie & Co which brokered the deal for the site, added: "Liverpool's iconic waterfront is one of the most recognisable in the world. Mann Island is an integral piece of this evolving jigsaw which has seen the arrival of the city's arena and convention centre. It is also shortly to welcome the new £65m Museum of Liverpool that is projected to attract around 750,000 visitors annually to the Mann Island area in its own right."
