Breakfastwatch – Café Boheme

A little French haven in the heart of London's Soho, Café Boheme's classic continental bistro breakfast makes it well worth a visit, writes Tom Vaughan

Like the restaurant's name and ethos, Café Bohème's breakfast menu is a mix of English and French classics.

Located in London's Soho since 1992, the French bistro, decked out in Parisian style, offers a comfortably Continental start to the day, with crêpes and espresso, but classic British options as well.

The set breakfast option (£10) has a French leaning. Ham and cheese omelette and French toast with pecan butter accompany the other option of bacon and eggs on toast, with freshly squeezed juice, tea and coffee making up the remainder of the cost.

There is an extensive à la carte menu that runs through the British breakfast classics: full English (£9), smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (£8) and egg and bacon bap (£5), as well as standard issue breakfast dishes such as eggs Benedict (£5).

It's the French options that offer something different, with crêpe complet (£6) containing ham and egg popular with the French customers, as well as Nutella or blueberry and crème fraîche alternatives. The rest of the menu includes normal croissant (£3), ham and cheese croissant (£5), French toast (£5) and omelette (£6).

Aptly for the Bohemian theme, there is space on the breakfast menu for not just a bloody Mary, but a mimosa and a bellini as well, all priced at £8 and available from 11am.

The simple brasserie feel of the place explains its popularity, especially at weekends when cover numbers can stretch to over 100 and when a brunch menu of simple French bistro food accompanies the breakfast dishes.
