Cabana restaurant group to open new site in Brixton

Brazilian-inspired barbecue restaurant group Cabana is to open a new site in Brixton, south London, in September this year.

The 100-cover site will be in a formerly-disused unit in Ferndale Road, and will offer the group's usual Brazilian-inspired dishes and cocktails. There will also be a separate 40-person basement venue named the Caipirinha Bar.

The refurbishment has been done with a view to keeping the heritage of the building intact, and co-owner Jamie Barber confirmed that it was the first step in the company's plans to expand further, at an estimated rate of five sites a year, both in London and regionally.

The group forms part of the Sweet Potato leisure investment portfolio, owned and operated by Jamie Barber.

As chief executive of Cabana, Barber said Brixton was perfect for the new site. He told The Caterer: "Brixton has a thriving eating out scene and the Brixton locals seem to have a real appetite and excitement to try something new and different. Our blend of bold flavours, cocktails and the energy of Brazil will hopefully be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood."

Cabana has seven sites, having originally opened at London's Westfield Stratford, and Covent Garden in November 2011, and Westfield London (in White City) nine months later. Its other locations include Wembley, Islington, and Leeds, which opened in late 2014.

In summer 2014, the group announced that it had successfully raised £5m from shareholders to grow both Hush and Cabana.
