Cafédirect launches high-street coffee shop

Fairtrade drinks company Cafédirect has opened its first high-street coffee shop in London's Regent Street.

The new shop, which is a joint venture between Cafédirect and the University of Westminster, will be managed by education caterer Scolarest and will be open to both students and the general public.

It will serve all of Cafédirect's fairtrade products including coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and will also offer smoothies and fruit juices as well as sandwiches and pastries.

Westminster University vice-chancellor Dr Geoffrey Copland said: "We're delighted to be part of this innovative business venture. As a modern, cosmopolitan university, we feel it is our responsibility to give our students and staff the opportunity to be involved with such a socially responsible brand."

Cafédirect was founded in 1991 and had a turnover of £19.75m in 2005.
