Cau and Cosmo to open at Southampton's WestQuay complex
Restaurant groups Cau and Cosmo are to open new sites at the WestQuay Watermark retail and leisure development in Southampton, set to open in late 2016. These will both be the first sites for the brands in the city.
Cosmo will take an 11,700 sq ft unit on the upper promenade level, while Cau will take a 3,152 sq ft area on the lower promenade. Their international dining influences have been designed to work alongside those of Brazilian-style restaurant group Cabana, which signed up to join the scheme in July this year.
Cau, with 12 UK sites (and one in Amsterdam), is from the team behind higher-end steakhouse group Gaucho. Taking inspiration from the Buenos Aires steak tradition, it serves an all-day array of steaks, burgers and small plates. The group is confident that it will work in a shopping centre setting, having already established itself at long-standing development the Oracle in Reading.
Earlier this year, Cau announced plans for four other new restaurants before the end of 2015, including Didsbury Village in Manchester, Glasgow, Bath, and another in the North West.
WestQuay Watermark is an £80m project from retail developer and owner Hammerson. Focusing on dining and leisure, it will form part of Southampton's Heart of the City project, which lays out a projected plan for the city centre's future.
Sarah Fox, head of restaurants and leisure at Hammerson, said: "We are delighted that Cosmo and Cau have chosen to debut at WestQuay Watermark in Southampton. Both restaurants offer customers a new dining experience and are great additions to the diverse line-up of restaurants that will be on offer."
