Christoffer Hruskova to launch second London restaurant

Christoffer Hruskova, chef-proprietor of Fig in Islington, north London, is launching a second restaurant in the capital.

The Danish chef has taken over the site previously occupied by the Clerkenwell Dining Room & Bar on St John Street in east London and will relaunch it as North Road later this month.

The new restaurant will offer a modern European menu focused on British ingredients with Nordic influences from Hruskova's native Denmark. Signature dishes will include cured native lobster, buttermilk, horseradish, sea shore herbs and vinaigrette;
venison rolled in burnt hay with raw and salt-baked beetroot and smoked bone marrow; and sheep's milk yoghurt with Douglas fir pine and muesli. The average spend per head will be about £55 including drinks.

Spread over two floors, North Road will include a 66-seat main dining room as well as a 10-seat bar and a chef's table for up to eight diners as well as a 20-seat private dining room on the first floor. The restaurant will be managed by Jasper Sorensen.

Hruskova told Caterersearch the name of the restaurant was inspired by the location. "St John Street used to be called Great North Road and was the main trading route between London and Scotland," he said. "So I thought it was a nice name considering the location and also the fact that I am from the North."

Meanwhile, Hruskova has relaunched Fig as Fig Bistro where he now serves a classic menu.

"The location of the new restaurant is more central and gives me the chance to really showcase my cooking so I decided to tone things down at Fig and really concentrate on North Road," he said.
