Conran to open in Copenhagen

Conran Restaurants is embarking on a new restaurant and bar project on the waterfront in Copenhagen.

The project, which is set to open in late summer next year, will include three restaurants, private dining rooms, a large outdoor seating area, bars and food stores opposite the Danish capital's opera house.

Des Gunewardena, chief executive of Conran Holdings, said: "The location has many similarities to Butlers Wharf in London. As we did there, our plan is to develop a series of restaurants, bars and some small sophisticated food shops."

The development will involve the refurbishment of a 13,000sq ft 19th-century building in partnership with local property company Centreplan.

The group has relinquished its management contract of the Berns restaurant at the Berns hotel in Stockholm. The hotel and restaurant have been bought by property company London and Regional.
