Cyrus Todiwala's Assado restaurant at the 297-bedroom Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo hotel has closed, however Todiwala has confirmed he will be opening another restaurant in London's Canary Wharf area in the coming months.
The 108-cover Portugese-fusion restaurant opened in 2014 and was based on the ground floor of the hotel. It closed at the end of December 2016 and has been replaced with burger, pizza and roast chicken restaurant Greenport.
Todiwala said that one of the reasons for the closure was the demand among the hotel's US guests for more American-style food, which was at odds with the Indian-influenced kitchen.
He added: "We have the opportunity to do another signature restaurant and therefore it worked out better for us to look at a few months down the line. So all in all it will work out better."
Todiwala runs Café Spice Namaste in London and Mr Todiwala's Kitchen at Heathrow Airport.
A spokesperson for Hilton said: "The Assado restaurant was part of the Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo hotel complex. Hotel residents showed a clear growing demand for American-style food, hence the decision was taken to change the concept."
