D&D London reveals plans for first Manchester restaurant

Restaurant group D&D London is to open a rooftop restaurant in Manchester - its first in the city.

The company said it had reached a deal with property developer Allied London to launch a 9,500 sq ft site with an outdoor terrace at No.1 Spinningfields, set to open in autumn 2017.

The as-yet-unnamed venue will be D&D London's fourth UK site outside the capital.

Spinningfields, which is a business hub with a growing office population of over 17,000, has grown in reputation as a district for eating and drinking out, thanks in part to Living Ventures, which has several venues in the area. It is now home to a host of operators and sees in excess of 5.5 million visitors a year.

No.1 Spinningfields is a new building within the district. It is the largest commercial building under construction in Manchester and will be the tallest office building to be constructed in the city ‎in 50 years.

Des Gunewardena, chairman and CEO of D&D London, said: "Expansion in northern England continues to be a significant part of our group's growth strategy and this announcement reflects that. Manchester is a fantastic city and we have watched closely over the last few years the resurgence of the restaurant scene in the city and in Spinningfields in particular. We are big fans of Allied London's development and are very excited to be becoming a part of it."

Michael Ingall, Allied London's chief executive, said: "No.1 Spinningfields has been designed to be a world class environment in every facet of the building. D&D is the perfect operator for this space and a game-changer for Spinningfields and Manchester. With numerous superb operations in London as well as restaurants in Paris, New York and Tokyo - and two Michelin stars, D&D is a quality operation in every sense of the word. We are delighted they have chosen No.1 Spinningfields as their first restaurant in Manchester."
