Des McDonald opens rooftop pop-up Q Grill at Selfridges
Restaurateur and former chief executive of Caprice Holdings Des McDonald is set to launch a rooftop version of his Camden restaurant, Q Grill, at London's Selfridges.
Open for 18 weeks from 22 May to 27 September, the 100-seat On the Roof with Q will serve an all-day menu inspired by the Camden menu, including granola with yoghurt, buttermilk pancakes, smoked and grilled meat over a charcoal grill, plus a selection of lighter dishes such as fresh seafood and superfood salads.
Desserts will also be gluten-, dairy-, and refined sugar-free, from the new cookbook from model Daisy Lowe, plus afternoon tea in classic, sugar-free and gluten-free versions. There will also be a selection of wine, summer cocktails and Pimms.
The rooftop garden space has been designed with Victorian glasshouses in mind, and will also feature a programme of talks from chefs, producers and "influencers". A team from Q Grill will be brought over to Selfidges, in a bid to ensure consistency.
Speaking of the launch, Des McDonald said: ‘‘I am delighted to be opening On the Roof with Q at Selfridges. It will be a secret foodie haven that will offer a fun and fresh dining experience alongside a programme of talks from some of the most innovative and influential people working in the food industry right now."
The Q Grill opened in Camden in March 2014, with the strapline "raw, grill, smoke". There are plans to open site another in Liverpool Street in the next year.
Des McDonald left Caprice Holdings in 2012 and set up his own consultancy soon after. His other brands include the Fish & Chip Shop in Islington, and the Holborn Dining Room, Holborn.
