Des McDonald Restaurants, operator of Holborn Dining Room and Fish & Chip Shop, is to open a new site in London.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
Alpine-themed Le Chalet will open on 22 October on the roof of department store Selfridges, and is set to replace the summertime pop-up, On the Roof with Q. Inspired by a traditional ski chalet, it will be the second of Selfridges' ‘On the Roof with…' pop-ups.
From head chef Chris Dargavel and group executive chef Lee Bull, the menu will feature barbecue grills in the style of sister restaurant Q Grill Camden, with dishes such as pit-roasted suckling pig, lobster macaroni, and buttermilk crispy chicken with a blue cheese fondue. Desserts, including eggnog snow egg, and black forest cheesecake, will come from the group's head pastry chef, Siobhan Ambrose. Fergal Dooley from Holborn Dining Room will be general manager.
Drinks options will range from hot chocolate cocktails from former Sushinho bar manager Allan Ferrell, to the ‘après-ski menu' designed by New York health brand the Juicery. Choices will include superfood hot chocolate, superpower espresso shot, and superfood teas.
Des McDonald, former chief executive at Caprice Holdings and founder of the restaurant consultancy, commented on the opening.
He said: "I am delighted to be opening another rooftop concept. On the Roof with Q was such a great success and we're really excited to transform it for winter. We've got a great team, and they will be delivering a truly unique Alpine-style BBQ menu."
