Domino's opens 400th store

Domino's Pizza UK and Ireland has opened its 400th pizza delivery store in Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield.

Chief executive Stephen Hemsley said: "We are pleased with the progress we are making with our expansion drive and are well on track to deliver our store opening target of 50 stores for 2005."

Domino's Pizza, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the UK and Ireland, aims to have 800 to 1,000 stores eventually.

This target will give it delivery coverage for 80% of the UK population.

Hemsley added that the UK's mass adoption of broadband and increase in interactive TV services had helped increase customers' appetite for ordering on-line.

As a result, Domino's expects to take its one-millionth interactive order this week, following the relaunch of its website and its ordering service on Sky Active TV in December 2004.
