Ducasse wins two Michelin stars in New York

French chef Alain Ducasse's Adour restaurant at New York's St Regis hotel has debuted with two stars in the city's 2009 Michelin guide.

The restaurant, which opened in the spring, has replaced Ducasse's previous New York eaterie at Essex House which held the top accolade of three Michelin stars until its closure two years ago.

The addition of the two stars means Ducasse's restaurant portfolio now includes a total of 17 Michelin stars, which sees him tied with fellow French chef Joël Robuchon.

Gordon Ramsay, who holds a total of 10 Michelin stars, retained the two stars his eponymous restaurant at the London hotel in Manhattan's Midtown gained last year.

New York now has a total of 42 Michelin-starred restaurants, four less than London with 46.

While London has just one three-starred restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, New York now boasts four eateries holding Michelin's top accolade, as well as seven two-starred restaurants and 31 starred establishments.
