Ex-poker pro launches raw food restaurant

Ex-professional poker player John Tabatabai is opening a new raw food restaurant in central London next month.

Rawligion is billed as a fast-casual operation and comes after Tabatabai regained good health following stress brought on by his occupation. He believes switching to a raw food diet was key to his recovery and has enlisted raw food guru Kate Magic as consultant chef at the Tottenham Street venture.

The restaurant is touting dishes including massaged kale with activated sunflower seeds and maitake mushrooms, cauliflower sushi and seaweed caviar and pizzas with crusts made from dehydrated grated courgette and seeds. There are also wraps where the wrap itself is made from coconut flesh as well as a raw chocolate room.

Dairy and grains are both off limits, making the menu suitable for those on gluten-free and Paelo diets.

Rawligion will also have what it claims to be London's first Oji Cold Drip Coffee Tower.

Tabatabai thinks it will go down well with Londoners looking for something different.

"We want to revolutionise the way busy Londoners eat and change existing perceptions of plant-based food," he said. "Prepare to have your taste buds tickled and be seduced by our delicious food and drink offering which will leave you feeling both energised and invigorated."
