Fay Maschler resigns from London Restaurant Festival to launch her own event

Restaurant critic Fay Maschler has resigned from the London Restaurant Festival, an event she helped to found, in order to concentrate on a new, rival venture called London Eats Out.

Maschler, who has been the London Evening Standard‘s food critic for the past 40 years, announced the move in an e-mail to potential supporters of the new event.

She invited restaurateurs, chefs, critics and bloggers to "join a discussion of how best a new catering event can celebrate and benefit London restaurants" next month.

The event is scheduled to launch in February/March 2014 - a time which Maschler has identified as being when "the restaurant trade slows and needs encouragement".

"This event will be entirely independent of The London Restaurant Festival from which I have resigned," she said.

No-one from the London Restaurant Festival was immediately available for comment.
