Former Kopapa head chef, Selin Kiazim, to launch solo London venture
Selin Kiazim, who was previously head chef at Peter Gordon's Covent Garden restaurant Kopapa, is set to launch a new restaurant and bar in East London.
Trip Kitchen & Bar will reflect Kiazim's Turkish Cypriot background, and feature a modern Turkish menu with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours. It forms part of a wider concept called Trip Space Projects, which aims to provide "a creative space" for "contemporary movement, devised theatre and dining experiences".
Near Broadway food market in the London area of Haggerston, the site is located under a renovated railway arch and has been simply decorated with wood and bright colours.
There will also be drinks such as coffee, fresh juices and Turkish-inspired cocktails.
Kiazim was born in North London but has Turkish-Cypriot parents, and worked with New Zealander Gordon at the Providores and Tapa Room before moving to Kopapa, which she left in March.
She worked as a staigiare at El Bulli, and was Spanish Young Chef of the Year in 2010, as well as a semi-finalist in the Craft Guild of Chefs' National Chef of the Year 2013 competition. She also won bronze and silver awards with the Junior Team GB in the Culinary Olympics in 2008, and reached finalist stage on BBC3's Young Chef of the Year in 2009.
Commenting her new venture, she said: "It is exciting to be in the heart of Haggerston, an up and coming area, which we see as a real crossroads for food and culture. We want Trip Kitchen to be an exciting space for guests to enjoy at every time in the day."
