Former Michelin-star winner John McClements plans central London restaurant
Former Michelin-starred chef-restaurateur John McClements plans to launch his first restaurant in central London, Caterersearch has learnt.
McClements currently operates six restaurants in south-west London, including three Ma Cuisine sites in Twickenham, Kew and Barnes as well as the Grill Room, also in Twickenham.
He also operates the Tagine Moroccan restaurant and the fine-dining restaurant Taste of McClements, both in Kew.
However, McClements has placed the Ma Cuisine site in Barnes on the market as part of a strategic review of the business.
"The Barnes restaurant just wasn't right for the area so we decided to sell it," he told Caterersearch.
"However, this doesn't change anything for the business as a whole. We want to launch a Ma Cuisine restaurant in central London and have looked at a site in Knightsbridge."
McClements gained a star for his eponymous restaurant in Twickenham in 2004.
However, he lost the star after one year and closed the restaurant in 2006 to relaunch it as a more casual, upmarket bistro called La Brasserie Ma Cuisine, which is now called The Grill Room.
He launched Taste of McClements last autumn in a bid to regain a Michelin star. The 20-seat restaurant serves a 16-course tasting menu only.
