French Bubbles opens bistro and fromagerie in Covent Garden
Specialist grower Champagne supplier French Bubbles is opening a bistro in Covent Garden alongside a shop and fromagerie.
Following a pop-up restaurant, the company has taken over a 515sq ft site on Wellington Street, which will open as Champagne + Fromage later this month.
With space for 30 diners, interiors will feature mismatched, reclaimed furniture, including red metal chairs and shelves fashioned from old wine crates to capture a rustic French style.
Open for lunch, pre-theatre and dinner, typical dishes will include signature tartines such as Auvergne - fresh figs with melted Fourme d'Ambert; La Nordique - salmon gravlax with a Langres cheese mousse and a special Champagne dressing; Champagne - pear with melted Langres cheese; and Montbélliarde - Montbélliarde sausage with Morbier and a confit of shallots. The average price for a tartine and a glass of Champagne will be £20.
In addition, specialties such as frogs' leg tempura with Roquefort cheese, snails Raclette Forestière and chocolate fondant with Bleu des Basques cheese will also be available.
An in-house fromagerie will offer more than 30 artisan cheeses from around France, while the shop will offer a range of French food products such as charcuterie, jars of terrines, confits, soups and jams.
The wine shop will offer 25 different grower Champagnes, ranging from Blanc de Blancs to Blanc de Noirs.
