French fine dining restaurant Boulestin goes into administration

Mayfair-based French fine dining restaurant Boulestin has gone into administration.

The original Boulestin, which was founded by Xavier Marcel Boulestin, the world's first TV chef and food, opened in Covent Garden in 1924, remaining there until 1994.

In 2013 Joel Kissin revived the Boulestin name, having been inspired "by the books, by the man, by the restaurant", when he opened his own restaurant in St James's.

It will remain open while administrators Griffins Insolvency Practitioners seek a buyer.

In accounts for the year ending 2016, Boulestin owed £188,164 to creditors. It was also shown that Kissin had provided the business with a £2.4m loan.

A statement on the Boulestin website reads: "Kevin Goldfarb and Stephen Hunt of Griffins Insolvency Practitioners were appointed as Administrators to Boulestin Ltd on 8 February 2018. The highly regarded restaurant has remained open with its full complement of staff and there has been considerable interest from potential purchasers which should lead to an early sale."

Kissin was one of the original founders of Conran Restaurants - now D&D London - with Sir Terence Conran, in 1987.

Together they launched Bibendum in the Michelin building in London's South Kensington, and later went on to open Le Pont de la Tour and Cantina del Ponte, Tower Bridge; Quaglino's, St. James‘s; Butler's Wharf Chop House; Mezzo, Soho; the Orrery, Marylebone; Bluebird, Chelsea; and Guastavino's in New York.

Kissin left the company in 2002.
