Giggling Squid to open Farnham restaurant

Thai restaurant group Giggling Squid is to open its fourth restaurant in Surrey, after it exchanged contracts on a site in Farnham.

The 140-cover restaurant will open on the sites of the former Colony Chinese restaurant and the neighbouring clothes shop on Castle Street.

It is expected to open early next year following a £200,000 refit.

Giggling Squid already has Surrey sites in Reigate and Guildford, with another expected to open in Esher in mid-November.

By the time the Farnham site opens, the group is expected to be 18-strong, with sites in Bury St Edmunds, Berkhamsted and Warwick all in the pipeline.

In addition to the 20 new jobs that the new restaurant will create, the company is also planning to hire a finance director, a finance team, a fourth area manager, executive and development chefs, plus posts in human resources, training and marketing.

"Customers travel from across the county to eat in our existing restaurants, and then beseech us to open in their home town - I get details of vacant properties every time a 'To Let' or 'For Sale' sign goes up."
