Gordon Ker to open Blacklock restaurant in London's Soho

Gordon Ker, who previously worked at London steak restaurant group Hawksmoor, is set to open his first solo venture, called Blacklock, next week.

The new restaurant, which will specialise in chargrilled chops, will occupy the 2,000 sq ft basement of 24 Great Windmill Street in London's Soho, an address that was previously an illegal strip club. It is expected to accommodate around 60 covers when it opens on 16 February.

Ker was given permission for a change of use of the site last August, in order to convert it into a restaurant. He has taken a 15-year lease with Soho Ltd, acting on behalf of Soho Housing, which was advised by property firm Savills.

Benjamin Ashe of Savills' central London retail team, commented: "This is a fantastic new restaurant that is capitalising on London's love of unique food. Located in the heart of Soho, this is an excellent site for the reasonably priced eaterie to flourish."

Blacklock was unrepresented.
