Gordon Ramsay protégés will dominate the decade, predicts Good Food Guide

Marcus Wareing, Jason Atherton and Angela Hartnett will take on the mantle of their mentor, Gordon Ramsay, and dominate the restaurant landscape in the coming decade, experts have predicted.

The three chefs, who made their name at Gordon Ramsay Holdings restaurants, top the list of ten contenders picked out by The Good Food Guide as most likely to be the most influential over the next ten years.

Ramsay and later Heston Blumenthal dominated the restaurant scene in the 2000s, just as Nico Ladenis and Marco Pierre White had done in the 1990s, according to The Good Food Guide ratings. Ramsay scored 10 out of 10 in 2003, 2004 and 2005 with Blumenthal achieving the perfect score in 2009 and 2010.

Chefs like Wareing, Atherton, and Hartnett are "obvious contenders" to take on the mantle, according to the guide, but it could be the decade for "highly talented chefs" such as Nathan Outlaw, Shane Osborn or James Sommerin.

It could, however, be someone relatively unknown, such as Will Holland or dark horses including Robert Thompson, Marc Wilkinson and Adam Simmonds, guide authors predicted.

Elizabeth Carter, editor of The Good Food Guide, which is run by consumer rights group Which?, said: "There's no doubt that Blumenthal and Ramsay have been the chefs of the decade. But what will the 2010s bring? We certainly have some exciting talent coming through the ranks. Will any of our predictions make it to the top in the next decade?"
