Gordon Ramsay's French venue wins two Michelin stars

Gordon Ramsay's eponymous restaurant au Trianon in Versailles has debuted with two stars in the 2009 Michelin guide for France, published today.

Ramsay, who now holds a total of 12 Michelin stars, is among nine chefs to be awarded the coveted two-star rating in this year's 100th edition of the Michelin guide for France.

Gordon Ramsay said the award was a "great honour" that made him "extremely proud" of the team at Le Trianon.

"It is particularly satisfying after the rather hostile reception we had on opening and this is a real career highlight] for me," he said.

Eric Frechon at the luxury Hotel Bristol in Paris is the only chef to be granted the top accolade of three stars in this year's guide to France, bringing the total of the country's three-Michelin-starred restaurants to 26.

In total, Michelin awarded 73 restaurants with new stars bringing France's number of starred establishments to 548, four times more than in the UK and Ireland.

A total of 73 restaurants hold two-stars, while 449 are one-starred.

The results to this year's guide to France leaked out last month in the Soir France newspaper. It was especially embarrassing for Michelin as the results to this year's UK and Ireland guide had been accidentally released onto the internet five days ahead of schedule in January.
