Greene King

Suffolk-based Greene King is a well-respected, highly dynamic company with over 2,000 pubs, a traditional brewery, some of the country's leading beer brands and over 200 years of heritage.

Since our business was founded in the market town of Bury St Edmunds in 1799, we have built our trade on employee and community relations. We successfully blend our traditional values with modern management and have grown to become one of the UK's most admired pub companies.

Our overriding aim is to provide the best service, and create the best experience, for our customers each and every time. In order to do so, we need to attract, retain and inspire the best people in the industry. This means a large part of our effort is focussed on teamwork and individual development. Our culture is extremely challenging at the same time as being supportive and rewarding.

Our reputation of being a fair, honourable exciting employer has played a key role in recruiting and keeping the best people and in the operational and commercial success of the company.

Company structure

Pub Company
Our managed pub division, twice winner of the Publican's ‘Pub Company of the Year' award, is known for offering some of the best opportunities in the industry and comprises over 750 quality outlets across England, Scotland and Wales. Brands include Old English Inns (Hotels), Wayside Inns, Giants Plate and Hungry Horse.

Pub Partners
This three-time winner of The Publican's ‘Pub Company of the Year' award is probably the best tenanted and leased estate in the business. The division consists of a diverse portfolio of over 1,300 well-invested quality outlets across England and Wales.

Belhaven Belhaven, the leading regional brewer and pub operator in Scotland, is our most recently acquired division. We offer a variety of pub careers throughout the brewery and managed estate and opportunities for people with a passion for our industry to start their own business in the leased estate.

Brewing Company Our brewing division is responsible for producing and distributing the best range of beer brands in the business. This includes the top selling cask beer in the country - award winning Greene King IPA. It also features other leading brands including Abbot Ale, Ruddles County, Old Speckled Hen and the new, but widely acclaimed The Beer To Dine For.

Corporate Centre & Business Services This is the heart of our organisation where the foundations are laid for all that we do across the group. This division is responsible for developing and leading our strategic plans and managing all the day-to-day activities that underpin our business.

Why choose Greene King?

We aim to develop a culture where we put equal emphasis on challenging and supporting our employees. Exacting training programmes and development courses have been designed to stretch and motivate our people. They give employees a greater understanding of the highly competitive environment we operate in, as well as providing them with the skills they need to do their jobs well and to perform to the very best of their ability.

All Pub Company employees take part in our award winning training programme, which encompasses a wide variety of teaching methods all aiming to provide maximum personal development as well as bringing tangible outcomes to the business. It includes a programme designed to groom assistant managers to become successful pub managers.

Pub Partners' licensee training programme is recognised as being the best in the business. All new licensees take part in the modular programme, which provides expert advice and practical skills to help them run their businesses. They subsequently receive industry leading business support to help them achieve the highest possible standards in their pubs.

We believe that all our regional managers can really make a difference to our pub businesses, so we ensure that we give them the tools to do their jobs properly. They have an excellent induction programme that includes a variety of courses and workshops and provides them with the skills they need to exceed customer expectations.

Brewing Company's programme of cultural change has involved the introduction of intensive personal development training programmes, which have resulted in a shift of attitude in individuals and teams. People are working together differently and the improvements are helping to deliver greater success for the division.

The aim of all our courses is to differentiate us from our competition and to provide the very best service in the industry. We want to ensure that everyone understands the importance of their contribution to the company and the difference they can make, not just in their own area, but also to the overall success of our business.
