Grill Group puts two more Smollensky's up for sale

Smollensky's owner the Grill Group has put two more of the group's struggling restaurants up for sale after failing to turn them around.

The leaseholds for the Smollensky's Metro in Hammersmith and a Burger Shack in Charing Cross, both in London, are now on the market through property agent Christie & Co.

Deals are also expected to be completed imminently for the sale of the group's Sutton and Croydon branches in south London.

The Grill Group, which bought Smollensky's for £6.5m last September, also operates Smollensky's on the Strand and at Canary Wharf, both in the capital.

Andrew Moore, director of restaurants at Christie & Co, said: "While poorly-run operations and those that are heavily geared are suffering in the current consumer downturn, there are a lot of companies out there taking advantage of the situation and we expect these sites to be snapped up."
