Grind to crowdfund expansion into airports and train stations

Grind is crowdfunding following an agreement with travel caterer SSP to launch its café-bars in airports and train stations across the UK and Europe.

As part of the partnership, the coffee and cocktail group will launch its café-bars at two major London travel locations within the next 12 months, and three more over the next three years, with a pipeline of additional locations under discussion.

Founded in Shoreditch in 2011, there are five Grind café-bars, four restaurants, a recording studio and a coffee roastery in London.

The group opened the Covent Garden (pictured) and Royal Exchange Grinds and roastery off the back of a £1.3m crowdfunded ‘Grind Bond' in 2015. Grind returns to Crowdcube today, allowing members of the public to buy shares in the company for the first time. The crowdfunding is also planned to double the size of the business by funding 10 new Grind restaurants in the next five years.

David Abrahamovitch, founder and chief executive of Grind, said: "Since the success of the Grind Bond two years ago, many of our customers and bondholders have asked if they would one day be able to buy shares in the company, and we're incredibly excited to now be able to offer them this chance."

Simon Smith, chief executive of SSP UK and Ireland, said: "The concept is great for the travelling consumer looking for excellent coffee and food, as well as for locals who want a meeting place to grab a drink or a bite to eat. It is the ideal complement to our other coffee brands."
