Hackney restaurant Mayfields to close
Mayfields restaurant in London's Hackney is due to close down later this month.
The restaurant on Wilton Way, which was acquired by Borough Wines and restaurateur Claire Roberson just 18 months ago, will offer its final dinner service on Saturday 27 September and will be taking bookings until the morning of that day.
The news comes despite a positive review in the Observer newspaper by critic Jay Rayner in October last year, who praised the restaurant, saying: "I imagine that, in years to come, all the people involved here will go on to much bigger things. I doubt, though, that any of those things will ever be quite as exciting as Mayfields."
In a statement announcing the closure, the restaurant said: "After a fantastic 18 months at Mayfields, we are sad to announce we will be closing its doors for good in September 2014. Our final dinner service will be on Saturday 27 September and we will be taking bookings until the morning of that day.
"Borough Wines and Claire Roberson would like to wholeheartedly thank all our customers who have dined with us over the past 18 months, as well as our friends for their on-going support and of course our wonderful hard working team led by Matthew Young, who we wish every success with their new endeavours."
