Henry Harris to oversee launch of Bower House

Former Racine chef Henry Harris is overseeing the launch of the Bower House restaurant with rooms next month in Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire.

The 75-cover restaurant, owned by father-daughter team Andrew and Afsaneh Knight, is opening on 7 April with former Lucky Onion development chef Darren Brown as head chef. Brown won a Michelin star while head chef at West Stoke House in Chichester in 2008.

Harris was chef/restaurateur at Racine in London's Knightsbridge for 13 years until 2015 when he sold the business and resigned as a director. He was set to relaunch the Dog & Badger bar and restaurant in Buckinghamshire, but departed prior to launch due to "artistic differences".

The five bedrooms above the restaurant in the Georgian town house are scheduled to open in mid-May, with Edward Cambridge from Soho Farmhouse joining as general manager.

The menu will reflect Brown's cooking style, which he describes as "modern British with a French accent", with an emphasis on seasonal, local produce.

Stiff + Trevillion is responsible for the renovation of the building, while Liana Braune, previously curator at the Museum of Everything, has supervised the art and interiors.
