Hotel Café Royal to open dessert-only restaurant

Hotel Café Royal will be launching a dessert-only restaurant next month, with menus created by executive pastry chef Sarah Barber. It is believed to be the first in a London hotel.

The restaurant, set to open on 3 March, will feature a selection of tasting menus with optional wine pairings from 6pm to 10.30pm daily.

The Sarah in Wonderland menu will feature five courses, starting with savouries to "prepare the palate" such as the Milky Way with goats' cheese, wild honey and beetroot snow, and chicken foie with quince and brioche.

The desserts are inspired by Alice in Wonderland: Queen of Hearts (raspberries, Champagne and roses); Mad Hatter (kirsch and cherries) and Eat Me, Drink Me (Snickers, chocolate malt shake).

A three-course menu called Childhood Memories will include Rhubarb and Custard and Jaffa Cakes.

There will also be a Pick ‘n' Mix menu with sweet and savoury options.

The opening of the evening dessert restaurant will run alongside the launch of a new day food and drink menus in the café.

Other dessert restaurants to have previously opened in the capital include Afters, which has 10 sites across London, Surrey, Essex and Kent and the Pudding Bar on Greek Street, which has since closed.
