Italian restaurant group Il Calcio set to open in London
Romanian-based Italian restaurant group Il Calcio is set to come to London, with the opening of two restaurants in the capital.
The group, which has 12 restaurants in Romania, including 10 in the capital city of Bucharest, is set to open its first UK site on North Audley Street in Mayfair later this month. A second site has already been earmarked for Earl's Court.
Headed up by chef and owner Valentino Salagean, who trained at Italian restaurants in New York, Il Calcio serves authentic Italian food in a relaxed environment and the 60-seat Mayfair site will be the group's flagship restaurant. The menu will range from antipasti such as Prosciutto di Parma Gran Riserva with Parmigianino Reggiano through to a selection of tartars and carpaccios as well as homemade pastas and meat and fish dishes including grilled veal chop and bream baked in a salt crust.
Interiors at Il Calcio will feature a mixture of banquette seating and crimson velvet chairs next to gold walls and wooden floors. The restaurant will be managed by Leandro Longo.
Il Calcio Mayfair will open at the end of November, with a second site on Old Brompton Road set to open in December.
