Kettner's closes after acquisition by Soho House

Kettner's the venerable restaurant in London's Soho is to close its doors today after 149 years in business.

In addition to the restaurant, a Champagne bar and 28 new bedrooms, all of which will be fully open to the public, will be created. The buildings will be restored and original features re-instated, alongside the addition of a new pavilion in the internal yard.

The deal for Soho House to take over Kettner's first came to light in late 2012, when the lease on the site was owned by former PizzaExpress owner Gondola Holdings.

The redevelopment of Kettner's is taking place alongside a wider refurbishment of other Soho House properties, including Soho House Greek Street, Cafe Boheme and Soho Kitchen & Bar. In total, the site is made up of 15 former townhouses, of which 11 are listed and two are Buildings of Merit.
