Almost half of hospital kitchens are breaking food safety laws
A searing indictment of the cleanliness of hospital kitchens is revealed today in research showing that almost half are plagued by vermin, risk infections by storing food incorrectly or employ staff with poor personal hygiene. Official inspection reports reveal that breaches of food hygiene laws include infestations of mice and cockroaches, kitchen staff not washing their hands, food being kept at the wrong temperature and remnants of meals becoming stuck in equipment. - [The Observer](http://observer.guardian.co.uk/), 12 August

Eton hotels sold to Middle East hotel group
JJW, the Middle East hotel group, has acquired the Eton Collection for £70m, including debt. JJW, which owns The Scotsman hotel in Edinburgh and 42 The Calls in Leeds, has acquired the company behind sites such as Threadneedles and The Colonnade in London. Domino's Pizza accused of exploiting migrant workersDomino's Pizza is poised to become the latest company in union fights for the better treatment of migrant workers after trade union Unite yesterday staged a demonstration against the sacking of Hungarian workers at three pizza branches in Derby. Domino's said the matter was being investigated and that it sought to ensure good standards at all its franchises. FishWorks director buys 2.17m shares
Despite a cost-cutting programme by restaurant group FishWorks its share price has fallen to a year-low of 12p from 18.75p in February. Café Rouge owner to launch new restaurant chain
Tragus Group, the restaurant operator behind the Café Rouge and Bella Italia chains, is to launch a new British dining concept called Huxleys Bar & Kitchen at Heathrow's Terminal 5 when it opens next March. - [The Times](http://www.timesonline.co.uk/), 11 August.

Travelodge to invest £1m in going green
Travelodge has appointed an environmental manager to head a green investment drive. Nicola Stopps will oversee a £1m strategy that supports new green technology through all 314 hotels. Little Chef sites may switch to retailing
