Like-for-like sales rise at the Restaurant Group despite weak consumer confidence

The Restaurant Group, the firm behind Frankie and Benny's, Chiquito and Garfunkel's, has defied tough consumer spending to report a 2.75% rise in like-for-like sales in the 44 weeks to 6 November 2011.

The company saw total sales rise 6.5% compared with the same period in 2010, thanks in part to the opening of 16 new restaurants. The group now has over 390 sites in total.

It said it expected to open another 24-26 restaurants in 2011, with another 25-30 new restaurants in 2012.

TRG said it expected trading conditions to remain the same up to 2012.
